Submissions open for 2024 Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation Fellowship

Submissions open for 2024 Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation Fellowship

Both clinical and non-clinical health professionals, and academic researchers, are invited to apply now for the Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation’s (DNZRF) 2024 research fellowship. Available from June 2024, this fellowship is expected to contribute to DNZRF’s mission to end the significant harm caused by diabetes in New Zealand.

The fellowship is designed to provide support for health professionals and academic health researchers to undertake research in a health delivery research team, health sector setting, or health delivery policy setting.

The research must be conducted in New Zealand, be specifically related to diabetes and aligned to the DNZRF’s mission statements. Research must have the potential to directly inform changes to practice, systems or health delivery policy, and demonstrate a clear connection to a healthcare need for people at risk of or living with diabetes in New Zealand.

The funding includes a salary/stipend based on the applicant’s qualifications and research experience, supplemented by a $20,000 contribution towards the direct costs of the research project. The maximum total possible value of the fellowship is up to $150,000 including all associated salary costs.

The funding is intended to cover full-time research over 12 months, however applicants may undertake this award part-time over a term of up to 36 months. In addition to the DNZRF fellowship funding, the successful candidate, their supervisors and host institution will need to confirm availability of sufficient resources to complete the project.

Applicants will typically have a minimum of an undergraduate degree and five years’ cumulative experience in studying, training or working in the health sector or health delivery research setting. As the DNZRF has a close affiliation with the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD), it is expected that the applicant or supervisor would be a member of NZSSD.

For those considering putting forward an application, it’s important to note that all DNZRF-funded research must meet the New Zealand Health Research Attributes.

Applications open from 1 February 2024, and close on 5 April 2024 at 12pm. For further information and to submit your application, please read the documents available for download below:
