Summer studentships for 2024-2025 announced.

The Summer studentships grants that are co-funded by Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation New Zealand (DNZRF) and the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD). These grants are designed to provide early career researchers with the opportunity to conduct studies that can positively impact the lives of individuals with diabetes, while also fostering the future research community in Aotearoa.

This year’s five award recipients each receive $6,500 to carry out a 10-week research project with a focus on diabetes. The recipients are Delicia O'Brien (Otago), Cristina Baby (Waikato) Caleb Lopez (Otago) Crystal Tan (Auckland) Kabir Khanna (Auckland).

Diabetes Education Resources for Young People Living with Type 2 Diabetes.

Assessing national clinical preparedness for equitable access to Pharmac-funded continuous glucose monitoring and automated insulin delivery.

Investigating the use of automated insulin delivery in improving care and reducing inequities for Māori and Pacific peoples living with type 1 diabetes.

Triaging suitability of young adults with type 2 diabetes in diabetes remission program in Counties: how accurate are routine clinical data-based classifiers for diabetes?

The relationship between diabetic nephropathy and diabetic macular oedema in patients with type 2 diabetes.

The recipients will present their research at the NZSSD Annual Conference in May 2025.
