Applications open for summer studentships in diabetes research
The New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD) and the Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation (DNZRF) are pleased to announce the opening of applications for up to six summer studentships for local diabetes research.
Each NZSSD-DNZRF summer studentship for the upcoming 2024/2025 period is valued at $6,500. These studentships are designed to provide early career researchers with the opportunity to conduct studies that can positively impact the lives of individuals with diabetes. They also play a vital role in fostering the future research community in New Zealand.
DNZRF Chairman Sir Ralph Norris says the Foundation is proud to support the next generation of researchers through these studentships. "Our hope is that they will gain vital skills and experience that enables future ground-breaking research in the area of diabetes."
NZSSD President Dr. Rosemary Hall says as rates of diabetes continue to escalate, research in this area has never been more crucial. “If we are to improve outcomes for New Zealanders with diabetes, it’s essential that we support researchers at all levels of their career.”
Applicants for the summer studentships must meet specific criteria and requirements related to supervisors and project topics. Applications must be submitted using the form on the NZSSD website by 5pm, Friday 16 August 2024.
Prospective applicants must have a suitable supervisor from a host institution, who has been a member of NZSSD since at least 1 January 2023, and is employed by a university, public hospital, or other institution in New Zealand.
Research projects must be started by 1 December and completed by 14 February 2025. Students are expected to present their research at the NZSSD Annual Scientific Meeting in May 2025.
